Weightloss

I hadn’t been on a scale for over a year because I was  breastfeeding, it was easy for me to burn 500 calories without moving a muscle. I could cheat on my diet without guilt. My daughter was helping me to maintain that “under 200 lb.” goal that I had worked so hard to reach.

Due to sickness, having 2 children about a year and a half a part, and being a stay at home mom with endless access to endless calories; I had ballooned to 225 lbs. I didn’t really realize that I had gotten that big until I took a picture of myself and I was shocked and sad. I was always very active and very skinny as a kid. I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. I took an office job right down the hall from the lunchroom and found myself at 180 lbs. Then, I became sick from a kidney ailment and I was in and out of the hospital over a 4 year span. In between that time I gave birth to my son Jordan and my weight gradually climbed to 225. It was always something that kept me from being able to really stick to a diet or exercise plan. After Jordan, there came 2 precious little girls born 1 year and 4 months apart…both breastfed.

Perhaps the breastfeeding left me uninspired as far as weight loss because I just wasn’t able to find a diet plan that worked for me. So, instead of dieting I decided to just watch what I ate by eating more veggies and less junk food and walking 2 hours a day, and walking 4 flights of stairs 4-8 times a day.

I was able to get back down to 180 lbs. I stopped breastfeeding a little over a week ago and I gained nine pounds!! I had been bingeing I’ll admit, on junk food and even had a glass of soda (or two) and I hadn’t drunk soda in over 9 years. I think once I convinced myself that I didn’t have the breastfeeding excuse anymore, that I was really going to do it and I was afraid, and we all know how emotions play a role in overeating.

I started the diet today, March 10, 2011, and I’m not turning back. I am going to journal my thoughts, food, measurements, and weight everyday until I reach my goal weight. If you want to know what diet I’m using, I will be tweeting about what methods, books, exercise gear, that I am using to help so follow me on twitter @itsontheshelf.  Find me on Facebook for my menu and exercise plan. It’ll be interesting as I am currently recovering from a broken little toe! I mainly want to lose weight in my mid section, so after doing some research with a few books. I settled on a specific diet.

I know this isn’t going to be easy, but nothing is more important to me than my health, family, and my marriage.  I am doing this for the health of them all.  To me, this is a small sacrifice in comparison to the huge pay off that I will get. My son Jordan, is watching me and I want to set an example for him. He is also overweight, and I want to show him with my actions, that he can eat healthy and lose weight. I want to be the best “me” that I can be in this life!
